I’d never fully understood how the Founding Fathers’ ideas connected before reading this volume; the section on pre-Revolutionary political thought really tied the timeline together. The book’s focus on philosophy made the early colonial period feel relevant instead of just a list of dates.

The chapters on Enlightenment philosophy really brought the Founders' motivations to life, making it feel less like a textbook and more like a story. I’ve been highlighting passages for my own notes, and the writing is clear enough to follow even without a class.

I bought this for a class and ended up reading ahead because the way it ties the philosophical debates to the actual events makes the 1700s feel immediate. The chapter on colonial governance really helped me understand the tensions behind the Revolution.
